Kaho’olawe

In partnership with the Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC), this service trip was a rare opportunity to engage directly with the land and history of Kahoʻolawe, a sacred, culturally significant island in Hawaiʻi. Once used as a bombing range, the island is now undergoing extensive restoration efforts led by KIRC and Native Hawaiian communities. During this trip, we participated in reforestation projects, erosion control, cultural protocol, and mālama ʻāina (care for the land), contributing to the healing and preservation of Kahoʻolawe. These images document the people, practices, and landscapes that define this powerful experience of service, learning, and connection.
